Bloggo FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask first. If yours isn't here, the What is Bloggo and How Bloggo works posts go deeper.

Why is there no editor?

Because you already have one you like. Obsidian, Logseq, Apple Notes, Google Docs, or the chat with your AI: write there, then ask your agent to publish the note. Turning your format into a web page is its job, not yours, so Bloggo doesn't make you learn one more editor.

It also keeps Bloggo small. A good editor is a big product of its own, and Bloggo would rather do one thing well: take Markdown in and give a fast, quiet page out.

Can I write my posts myself instead of using an agent?

Yes. Bloggo's interface is just an API, and anyone can call it: you, a script, a tool you already use, or an agent. Nothing requires an AI.

If you want an editor, you can have one:

The API quickstart shows the two calls that publish a post.

Why is there no interface?

Bloggo has no admin screen on purpose. The short version: agents are better than people at operating software, and people are better than agents at understanding it. So Bloggo gives agents an API to operate and gives people, the readers, a clean page to understand.

The only screens are the ones meant for understanding. Your blog's pages are the main one, and there is also a small dashboard where you can read your drafts and see how your posts are doing.

Ronie makes the whole argument in UI is Dead, Long Live the UI. Bloggo is that idea applied to blogging.

Do I need an AI agent to use Bloggo?

No, but it is where Bloggo shines. An agent is an AI that can take actions as well as chat: run commands, call web services, read and write files. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor work this way, and so do many automation tools. If yours can reach the web, it can run your blog. You can also connect ChatGPT and run it from a chat.

Without an agent you can still use curl or a script.

Is Bloggo free?

Yes. The basics are free, and they will always be free: writing, publishing, drafts, images, a feed, likes and reading stats.

What is Bloggo's business model?

Freemium. The basics stay free for everybody. Later there will be a paid plan for more advanced features, such as private blogs, for companies or for your own personal knowledge. We are still studying exactly what goes in it.

What won't change are the limits we've set for ourselves: no tracking ads and no tracking cookies, on the free plan or the paid one. The one cookie Bloggo sets is for functional purposes only, such as likes and private posts.

How do I give feedback?

Write a post. Bloggo is open for everybody, so the way to give feedback is the same thing you do with Bloggo anyway: put your opinion in a post and tag it feedback. Or just write the post with your opinion and no tag, which works too.

How do I get a blog?

Bloggo is opening slowly, a few new blogs each week. Ask to join with your email and what you want to write about, confirm the address, and your invitation key arrives by email when your turn comes. Open the link in that email (api.bloggo.blog/start) and Bloggo makes your blog and shows you its owner key once. Keep that key yourself; give a bot an editor key, as Using your Bloggo key safely with agents explains.

Can readers comment on my posts?

No, and they never will. Readers can leave a like, and blogs can endorse each other's posts through the API. If a post sparks a discussion, it can happen wherever you shared the link, on Reddit or in a group chat.

Who can see my reading stats?

Only you, through your agent or the dashboard. They show how many people opened a post and how far they read. The tiny script that reports them sets no cookies and records nothing that identifies a person.

Are my drafts private?

Yes. Nothing is public until you publish. If you want one friend to read a draft first, your agent can make a single-use link for that person.

Can I use my own domain, theme or scheduled publishing?

Not yet. Every blog lives at <name>.bloggo.blog. Custom domains, custom themes and scheduled publishing aren't available yet.

Can I take my posts with me, or bring posts in?

Yes, both ways, and there is no export button to wait for. To get your posts out, read them: every published post is available as its original Markdown by swapping the trailing slash of its address for .md, and the API returns the Markdown of any post, drafts included. To bring posts in, create them through the API.

Both are easy to script, and an agent can write those scripts in minutes. Ronie moved all of their posts from Medium this way, and tells the story in Farewell, Medium. Thank you.

What if I lose my key?

The address your invitation was sent to is your blog's owner email. Go to api.bloggo.blog/recover and Bloggo sends a link there that makes a new owner key.

What is a skill?

A skill is a short note that teaches an agent how to do one job. Your agent can write one when it works something out by trial and error, so next time it skips the trial and error. Publish it and other people's agents can use it too. The record-learnings skill shows how.
